Comments for Fire Your Job, Hire Yourself https://hireself.com The Planning Guide to Starting Your Own Business Mon, 24 Jan 2022 19:52:56 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.8.1 Comment on Female Business Owners are Primed to Take Over the World by Scott Alvord https://hireself.com/female-business-owners-are-primed-to-take-over-the-world#comment-107 Thu, 13 Aug 2015 03:36:27 +0000 http://www.hireself.com/?p=597#comment-107 I can think of three solutions off the top of my head:
1. Ask trusted friends, “Who mentors you?” Get details. Find out if they’d highly recommend them and why. If you don’t have a trusted friend, talk to a leader in your field and see if they’d share this information. Your local chamber of commerce might have someone they’d recommend.
2. Join a LinkedIn Group in your business category and start listening carefully. Respond to questions and post your own. See who tends to provide the best advice. Then contact that person to see if they are interested in helping do a little coaching with you.
3. Directly approach people you respect and admire that are in a similar line of work. Compliment them on their abilities and tell them you’ve been looking for someone to discuss ideas and to receive some personal coaching and mentoring. Many people will be honored that you asked and some might take you up on it, maybe even without charge. …but you should definitely pay for the lunch or coffee!

Nice.
I do have a question though. Since the two things that females struggle with the most are finding mentors and getting funding, it seems we need solutions to these two needs. I downloaded the ‘how to fund a business’ ebook and it is excellent, truly. However, the article doesn’t address ideas on how to find mentors to coach the ladies. How would you, or anyone else reading this, suggest they go about doing it?

Comment on Disneyland is Second in Popularity Only to Sumday Isle by Scott Alvord https://hireself.com/disneyland-is-second-in-popularity-only-to-sumday-isle#comment-66 Tue, 05 May 2015 03:34:19 +0000 http://www.hireself.com/?p=407#comment-66 In reply to Robby Strait.

Yes, Robby, I used to pull that card while I worked a job for 18 years. I loved my job but I had a passion for my side business during those years. I frequently caught myself saying, “Someday I’ll finally be brave enough to resign and go full time in my own businesses.” Enough pieces of my puzzle finally fell into place for me to make that separation back in 2005. I loved the job and missed my coworkers but I have never ever regretted resigning. I LOVE my life as an entrepreneur and I cannot ever see myself going back to being an employee, other than possibly a temporary basis as a consultant filling in until they hire a permanent employee.

I sound like Miss Kite? Oh my. I need to start lowering my voice more when I type.

You sound like my elementary english teacher, Miss Kite. I don’t remember many of her grammar rules but I can certainly tell that it reads wrong. Scott, your smart phone story rings a lot of recognizable bells in my head. My eyesight is not what it used to be. Those words are just too small to read sometimes.

Thank you. I’m shocked that McD’s hasn’t fixed their mission statement since at least 2012. Like you, I do not think it is a little-known grammatical feature. They used the word center when it clearly should have been centers. The singular word would only apply if there was one or more subjects in the sentence. My English teacher would have said to hear the answer in your head, combine the multiple subjects into a single word, “they” and use it in the sentence. “They center.” However, there are not multiple subjects. There is only the single subject of “global strategy,” so my English teacher would say to replace it with the word “it” to get “it centers.” Good catch!

Comment on Five Easy Tips to Help You Get Your Business Bills Paid on Time by Will Renner https://hireself.com/tips-to-get-your-business-bills-paid-on-time#comment-45 Fri, 19 Dec 2014 22:31:20 +0000 http://www.hireself.com/?p=339#comment-45 Yes, these are simple, but they are solid reminders of things we all should be doing, but probably are not. My business credit card gives cash back and I have not been taking advantage of it. I do pay my credit card bill completely off each month so I will start to use the credit card more often since the cash back is free money.
I agree with Robby that the divided bill organizer is a cool idea. I have several bills that I cannot automatically pay so I still have to deal with the paper bills and send checks. That organizer is going to be added to my business tools. Just avoiding one late fee will easily pay for the device.
